Musicia an Android App (Java) that leverages the Spotify API's Get Track API to play the preview_url of any song on Spotify with the following features:

• Uses FirebaseAuth to handle user registration, login and preferences
• Stores songs in user's device
• Streams songs and allows for Play/Pause, looping, seeking and shuffling

The server that provides the endpoint was originally implemented with a PHP script running on an Azure server in 2019, but has since been replaced with a Cloudflare+JS implementation in 2024.

Motivation

Musicia was created as a deliverable for the COMT (Computational Thinking) submission in the 1st year of school. Originally, songs were supposed to be hardcoded, and the API was through a school provided script that allowed us to get the links to the song. I got inspired by this and decided to just integrate the API calling process into the application instead.
